In continuation of my Confidential

Despatch of the 31st. ultimo, I have the honour to transmit

copy of a further letter from the Chief Justice on the

subject of the desirability of appointing a Crown Pro-

-secutor to assist and advise the Police, together with

copy of previous correspondence on the subject.

I do not agree with Sir Francis

Piggott that the adoption of his recommendation would not

involve additional Staff.

In my Confidential Despatch of

the 9th. ultimo, I have endeavoured to show how the work

at present falling to the Crown Solicitor may be carried

on without additional Staff. To add to that work the

duties of Public Prosecutor must in my opinion entail the

appointment
